Privacy Policy

This site, vesselcalledlibrary.com(“the Site”, “we”, “us”), is the personal log of the sailing vessel Library. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit, how it is used, and the choices you have. Questions? Email hello@vesselcalledlibrary.com.

Information we collect

• Analytics data. We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how the Site is used. It collects usage information such as pages viewed, approximate location, referring links, and device and browser type, and sets cookies or similar identifiers. This helps us improve the Site.
• Newsletter details. If you subscribe to Letters from the Library, we collect the email address you provide so we can send occasional updates. You can unsubscribe from any email.
• Shop orders. If you buy something from the Shop, the order, shipping and payment details you enter are collected and processed by our fulfilment and checkout provider to complete and ship your order. We do not see or store your full payment card details.
• Messages. If you email us or reach out on social media, we keep that correspondence so we can reply.

Cookies and tracking

Cookies and similar technologies are used for two things on this Site: analytics (Google Analytics, above) and affiliate attribution (below). You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s opt-out browser add-on. Blocking cookies will not stop you from reading the Site.

Affiliate links

The Library section contains affiliate links to booksellers and retailers including Amazon (as an Amazon Associate), Bookshop.org, and Audible. When you click one of these links, the retailer may set its own cookies and track any resulting purchase so it can credit us a small commission, at no extra cost to you. Those retailers handle that data under their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to read.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers that make the Site work, acting on our behalf:

• Google Analytics - website analytics.
• Our newsletter provider - to store subscribers and send emails.
• Our shop and fulfilment provider and its payment processors - to take payment and ship orders.
• Our hosting provider - to serve the Site (this includes standard server logs).
• Affiliate retailers - only when you choose to click an affiliate link.

We may also disclose information if required by law.

Retention

We keep newsletter details until you unsubscribe, order records for as long as needed for the sale and any legal or tax obligations, and analytics data for the retention period set in Google Analytics.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR in Europe and the CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, to opt out of certain processing, and to unsubscribe from marketing at any time. Children

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the Site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
