Monterey Bay to Morro Bay

This one handed me my ass. The forecast and the reality parted company somewhere past Point Sur, and the weather turned mean along the Big Sur coast. The boat was fine. I was learning fast, and not always in time.

Near Elephant Seal Beach, just north of San Simeon Bay, it got bad enough that pressing on stopped being brave and started being stupid. I tucked in and anchored for a night to take shelter and rest, the swell wrapping the point and the seals barking in the dark. In the morning the sea had settled enough to move, and I ran the rest of the way down to Morro Bay and the shelter of the rock.
